A couple weeks ago, more than 4,000 higher education professionals and technology vendors got together in Denver at EDUCAUSE 2018. Many of the sessions and themes focused on meeting the needs of institutions in flux. They included using data to improve student success, employing systems of engagement like CRM to improve student experience, applying online/blended learning to lower tuition costs while meeting the needs of an increasingly diverse student body, and exploring how innovative technologies such as AI and blockchain can help transform the business of learning and operations.
Overall, these sessions and discussions mirrored the top IT issues that EDUCAUSE reports colleges and universities will face in 2019. Many of these can’t be solved overnight because they’ll require commitment from the entire institution—top to bottom—to make it happen.
